Jolly Holly-day Parade

Updated: Jan 19, 2019

It's beginning to look a lot like Christmas...at the Kiwanis Parade.

This was the Alpha Knight's first year participating in the Kiwanis Holiday parade. We thought this was the perfect opportunity to expose the team's effort with our robot. Our driver, Fernando, steered the bot two miles down the road of Mission Hills with thousands of people watching. It was a bit hot, but that was overweighed by the joy we held.

Social Media members Brooke Adams and Cailla Esparza, with the help of Tatsuya Sato, passed out candy canes and pins to all the children on the side watching the parade. The pins and candy canes had our social media info and a QR code that links to our GoFundMe page which will help us get more supporters and donations. Though, that's not the only reason why we joined the parade.

We believe it's important for everyone to get involved with Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics, a.k.a STEM. These four subjects can help improve the future of our world, which is why we came out to show our robot that was made with STEM.

Surprisingly, the judges were wowed by our robot and gifted us the Mayor's Trophy for Best Non-Professionally Constructed float!!! Our team captain, Michael Maddy, holds the trophy with pride and glee. Mr. O'Neill is going to be happy and showcase it on his sh-elf!

Never forget, we owe a massive thanks to the mentors that helped us throughout this day of fun, Yoli McGalliard, Gaylee Esaprza, and Matt Volpe. They were all more prepared than we were and provided us with awesome muffins :)
